WHAT MAKES GAMERS UNIQUE
The gaming culture has become a worldwide phenomenon and has been forged through video games. The people that play video games identify as gamers. This can mean someone who just enjoys games, usually called a casual gamer or someone who is passionate about them, also known as a hardcore gamer. Gaming can be for entertainment, relaxation, intellectual challenge as well as for competition.
So let us examine all the reasons why gamers are their own brand of awesome uniqueness.
They are not stereotypical.
When one hears the word, gamer, the image that usually pops in most people’s minds is that of a pale, young and angry person seated in a darkened room, playing games on a loop. This is, in fact, wrong. Gamers come from across the board. The more technical term is varied demographics. They are of all ages, young and old, female and male.
They Understand Balance.
As we’ve established, gamers play for different reasons. Some for competition, others for relaxation and mental stimulation. Contrary to popular belief, gamers have lives outside of gaming. Gamers have understood the work life balance.
They Appreciate Creative Narratives.
A lot of the games these days have a narrative that they follow. Games like Assassins Creed, Grand Theft Auto, God of War and the Tom Clancy games all have interesting narratives that are immersive. Gamers appreciate these creative narratives.
They Have Mental Acuity
Video games are immersive and they engage the mind therefore the deduction that they greatly improve mental acuity is not farfetched. There has been research that suggests that playing video games can change the brain regions responsible for planning and visual skills and make them more efficient.
They Make Faster Decisions.
The ability to process and make decisions faster is strengthened by gaming. New information is constantly being shown during a game and the players are forced to make fast decisions and adapt accordingly. One study has shown that players who were immersed in fast-paced games were 25% faster in reacting to questions about an image they had just seen compared to non-players.
There are multiple reasons that make gamers unique and on the 9th of December, CBS and CBS Sports Network will be airing the inaugural Gamers Choice Awards (GCA), celebrating the uniqueness of the gaming culture. This is will be the first ever televised award show celebrating the vast world of gaming.
On the 17th of November, a number of nominees were announced and profiled. Hosting the Gamers’ Choice Awards will be VH1’s Carrie Keagan and Marcus ‘djWheat’ Graham, who is the executive director of Twitch.tv.
This is a completely fan-voted awards show. Only fans and gamers can determine the winners from the multiple categories that have been presented and the voting is now open at the website https://gamerschoice.tv, where gamers and fans can register and vote once an hour until the 27th of November.
The categories are varied. The more obvious categories include: Fan favorite male and female gamer, game, fan favorite action game, fan favorite single player and multiplayer game, favorite sports/Racing Game, Indie Game, Most Anticipated Game.
The Gamers Choice Awards also venture into some new and interesting territory like: Most desired franchise resurrection, favorite celebrity gamer, retro game, favorite voice actors, male and female, gaming moment and streaming service.
